National Women’s Hall of Fame Gallery Docent (part time)

Wage: Non-exempt position, $17/hour. This is a part-time position, and applications will be accepted for individuals interested in working between 5-30 hours per week.

Schedule: May 22 (estimated) – Sept 30, 2024. The Museum will be open to the public Tuesdays-Saturdays beginning May 25. In general, shifts will be between 10:30am and 4:30pm. The position may require weekend hours, and some evening hours for events/programs.

OVERVIEW

Reporting to a Museum Manager, this position assists with daily operations at the Hall’s gallery space in Seneca Falls, NY.  Greet and welcome visitors, collect admissions, lead tours and small groups, assist with group activities, assist with gift shop sales, and perform light administrative duties as you help introduce the Hall’s 312 incredible inductees to visitors from across the nation and world who make the pilgrimage to Seneca Falls, birthplace of the women’s rights movement.

Duties

  • Staff the admissions desk during Museum open hours; greet visitors and promote admissions and donations and memberships
  • Conduct tours and respond to questions
  • Assist with educational activities for group visits
  • Stock brochures, guides, forms, and gift shop items
  • Operate point-of-sale system including opening and closing
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, assisting with mailings, scanning, and photocopying
  • Assist with research requests
  • Light cleaning duties to maintain the visual standards, safety, and day-to-day cleanliness of the public areas of the building
  • Administrative tasks, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Ability to interface with all levels of the public from school children to the elderly
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to utilize technology and learn new computer skills as needed
  • Interest in learning about, and sharing, information about the Hall’s Inductees and their accomplishments
