SUMMARY:48 Hours for Equal Rights Giving Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The 175th Anniversary of the First Women’s Rights Convention\nOn Wednesday\, July 19-20\, 2023 our nation will celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the historic Seneca Falls Convention—commonly known as the first Women’s Rights Convention of 1848. The Seneca Falls Convention lasted two days and launched a national movement for women’s suffrage. \nOn this 175th Anniversary\, the National Women’s Hall of Fame is hosting a special campaign to raise 175 gifts in just 48 hours. The 48 Hours for Equal Rights Giving Challenge is an opportunity for us to reflect on the progress made over the past two centuries\, but more importantly\, it’s a chance for us to continue the ongoing fight for true gender parity\, here and around the globe. \nIn 2022\, UN Women and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs reported that “gender disparities are worsening in the face of ‘cascading’ global crises—such as the COVID-19 pandemic\, violent conflict\, and climate change—[couple] with the backlash against women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.” The study estimates that at the current rate of progress\, “it will take up to 286 years\,” to achieve true gender parity. \nIf we are celebrating the 175th Anniversary of the First Women’s Rights Convention\, and it is estimated it will take an additional 285 years to achieve gender equality at the current rate of progress\, where do we fall on this timeline? \nIn 1848\, the Seneca Falls Convention launched a movement for women’s suffrage and drafted the Declaration of Sentiments—in just 48 hours. SUMMARY:Convention Days & ERA Centennial Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the Town of Seneca Falls hosts a weekend celebration commemorating the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention. 2023 is the 175th anniversary of the convention as well as the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). To commemorate these historic anniversaries\, multiple organizations are coming together to host a 3-day weekend of events from Friday\, July 21 – Sunday\, July 23. \nOrganizations involved:  \nCentral New York NOW\, Eleanor’s Legacy\, Equal Rights Action\, National Women’s Hall of Fame\, NYPENN Girl Scouts\, Rochester New York NOW\, Seneca Falls Convention Days Committee\, Seneca Falls Historical Society\, University of Rochester\, Women Institute for Leadership and Learning\, Women March in Seneca Falls\, and Women’s Rights National Historical Park. \nThe National Women’s Hall of Fame will be hosting an outdoor celebration at 5pm on Saturday\, July 22nd which will include live music\, food\, and women’s organization vendors in our parking lot\, 1 Canal St. \nClick on the link below to see an entire list of the weekend’s events and where they will be held. \nWeekend Schedule\n
