SUMMARY:HELLO my name is... A stitched introduction
DESCRIPTION:Please reserve your spot and purchase tickets here. \nA name is a world onto itself. It holds our history and heritage. So\, who are the people with whom we co-craft democracy? Let’s introduce ourselves! The project ‘HELLO my Name is’: A stitched introduction invites people to share who they are and why they show up as co-crafters in their community. The stitcher’s mark on each patch is distinct to us\, but together we are co-crafting through the work of our hands and hearts to shape our Democracy. \nThis “stitched introduction” workshop is part of the Voices and Votes exhibition at the National Women’s Hall of Fame. This in-person workshop on July 13 will guide crafters in creating their own one-of-a-kind masterpieces. All attendees will be provided with a craft kit to complete your very own handstitched patch\, to be worn out in the world. \n‘HELLO my Name is’: A stitched introduction takes the iconic sticker\, on which we scribble our moniker at various events\, and personalizes it through sustainable practice and a statement about our personal presence in communities.  It’s the start of a conversation about who you are\, why you’re here and how you co-craft Democracy. \nThe goals of this “stitched introduction” are to: \n\nCreate a functional patch (or a collection of them!) to be worn at community events\, meetings\, protests and marches\, or anywhere where the stitcher wants to make a statement\, initiate a conversation or offer a friendly introduction.\nOffer opportunities to stitch in community and meet new people. Sometimes it’s easier to talk when our hands are busy.\nPosition a cordial greeting (HELLO! My name is …) as the jumping off point to new relationships that can activate positive change in your local community.\nElevate the possibility of potential when people gather in creative pursuits.\n\nAbout your instructor: Hinda Mandell is a professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology and conducts research at the intersection of sensational events with private lives. Since 2016\, her research has focused on the intersection of craft and political events\, examining craft as a gendered\, communication tool that can subvert the social order. Learn more about Hinda’s work by exploring this fascinating article about the links between smartphones and textiles. \nPlease reserve your spot and purchase tickets here.

SUMMARY:48 Hours for Equal Rights Giving Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The 175th Anniversary of the First Women’s Rights Convention\nOn Wednesday\, July 19-20\, 2023 our nation will celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the historic Seneca Falls Convention—commonly known as the first Women’s Rights Convention of 1848. The Seneca Falls Convention lasted two days and launched a national movement for women’s suffrage. \nOn this 175th Anniversary\, the National Women’s Hall of Fame is hosting a special campaign to raise 175 gifts in just 48 hours. The 48 Hours for Equal Rights Giving Challenge is an opportunity for us to reflect on the progress made over the past two centuries\, but more importantly\, it’s a chance for us to continue the ongoing fight for true gender parity\, here and around the globe. \nIn 2022\, UN Women and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs reported that “gender disparities are worsening in the face of ‘cascading’ global crises—such as the COVID-19 pandemic\, violent conflict\, and climate change—[couple] with the backlash against women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.” The study estimates that at the current rate of progress\, “it will take up to 286 years\,” to achieve true gender parity. \nIf we are celebrating the 175th Anniversary of the First Women’s Rights Convention\, and it is estimated it will take an additional 285 years to achieve gender equality at the current rate of progress\, where do we fall on this timeline? \nIn 1848\, the Seneca Falls Convention launched a movement for women’s suffrage and drafted the Declaration of Sentiments—in just 48 hours. What can we make happen today? \nMake your gift today! \n

SUMMARY:Bringing Back the Bell
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fundraiser to help restore the iconic bell tower to the 1844 Seneca Knitting Mill!\nThe Mill’s bell tower was taken down in 2014 and it’s always been a goal to get it back. The designs are done. The team is assembled. The last thing we need is funds for fabrication and installation. If we make that happen\, a bell will be back –and ringing – later this year.   \nAnd here’s the exciting part: thanks to the generosity of local donors\, every dollar given to BRING BACK THE BELL will be matched\, dollar for dollar\, up to a total of $125\,000!   \nThat means if you give $10\, it becomes $20. $100 becomes $200. $500 becomes $1000. There are many ways to have your donation matched. Stop by our gallery\, purchase a commemorative bell in our gift shop\, or make a contribution online.  \n  \nThe Fabric of a Village: A Case Study of the Seneca Knitting Mill \nNellie Ludemann of the Seneca Falls Historical Society will also be on hand to present the program\, “The Fabric of a Village: A Case Study of the Seneca Knitting Mill\,” a program that looks at women’s roles during the industrial era in New York. \nLudemann will discuss how the Seneca Knitting Mill has always been a prominent landmark in the Seneca Falls community since its construction in 1844. Throughout the history of the Mill\, it has been a place of employment\, advancement\, and change inside the small Canalside village of Seneca Falls. “The Fabric of a Village: A Case Study of the Seneca Knitting Mill” explores the history of this important fixture of the community and looks at real accounts of the culture inside the mill from a woman’s perspective. \nDoors open at 11 and the presentation will begin at noon. \nThe First Presbyterian Church Bell Choir will be performing following the presentation. \nThis event is FREE to attend however\, donations are greatly appreciated as we continue the restoration of the Knitting Mill.  \nFormer mill workers are welcome to share their stories before or after the presentation! Members of the staff will be on hand to collect worker testimonials if they choose to share them. These stories will be used in the construction of a future exhibit to be housed at the National Women’s Hall of Fame.

SUMMARY:Rug Hooking and Women's Suffrage
DESCRIPTION:During New York State’s Path Through History Weekend\, the Hall will be hosting Norma Press of Geneva who will be discussing a special exhibit of over 30 rugs related to the history of the women’s suffrage movement. These rugs were created to celebrate the 100thanniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on August 18\, 1920.
